JML Simply Straight Brush Review

I remember when these brushes first came out and I really wanted one but I wasn’t sold on whether or not they would actually straighten my hair. In the end I never ended up getting one as I didn’t want to blow £40.00 on a product I may not use. When I was browsing my local boots with a gift card I got for Christmas, I saw the JML stand and this heated brush was priced at £20.00. Long story short, I brought it and here’s how I got on.

As you can see my hair is naturally quite straight and just usually has the odd kink from air drying after washing my hair. It is quite thick, more so since I started dying it and comes to my mid back. To get super sleek straight her I would normally use my GHD’s which iron my hair at 185 degrees celcuis. I’ve had these for years and skeptical as to how the JML brush would match the results I get from them.

I plugged in the brush and turned it on. It has 3 heat settings of 150, 160 or 185 degrees celcius. I decided to go with the lowest heat first to test it out. You have to wait a couple of minutes for the brush to heat up. The thing I didn’t like about this was that there’s no indication when the brush had reached that temperature, whereas my other straightners would beep and flash.

Once 2 minutes had past I started to straighten my hair. I made sure my hair was combed and tangled free first. Unlike a regular hair brush, I made sure the bristles were facing outwards and away from my scalp.

The lowest heat setting left my hair still with waves in, even after I went over it a few times. My hair had ironed out slightly but didn’t look as though it had been particularly ‘straightened’. I then tried the next heat setting which is 160 degrees celcius. This was better than the other setting but still didn’t manage to create that sleek straight look.

Fianlly, I went for the highest heat setting of 185 degrees celcius and was quite impressed. My hair was straightened but still had volume and didn’t look flat.

The ends of your hair are hard to straighten which meant they still look frizzy. If you have curly hair, I think you would possibly struggle using the JML brush. They would be a good alternative to my GHDs when I just want to tidy my hair up a bit without being bothered if it’s ironed or not. I would use the 160 degrees heat setting as this is 25 degrees cooler so wouldn’t be as damaging to my hair.

This did take me a bit longer to straighten my hair than normally but with a bit of practice, I’m sure I could knock a few minutes off the time. I am pleased with my purchase however and will continue to use these.

I’ve thought about trying these a million times and just can’t bring myself to spend the money. Maybe I’ll give it a shot as my hair is already fairly straight as well. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve also wanted to try this but not wanted to spend the money on something I don’t think could control my hair. I think for people like you that already have fairly straight hair it’s a great alternative to straighteners though 😊

I think it’s healthier for your hair than normal straightners but if you’re hair is naturally curly it probably wouldn’t do such a good job 🙂 x

Most likely 😊 my niece has beautiful, long, thick, straight hair and everytime I see her I want to cut it off and make a wig for myself. As of yet she’s refused me. Selfish bugga 😉
