Liquid Eyeliner Review and Swatches

A review and swatches of popular liquid eyeliners. I for one love a good liquid eyeliner, it frames the eyes and finishes a make up look. I like it to be dark, have a thin wand and be a smooth application.

Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner

This is the first ever liquid eyeliner I brought all those years ago. It’s good for a quick smooth application and the colour is really black, which I l look for in a liner. The only issue is it fades after a while and isn’t as long as lasting as some of the others but for £2.99 it’s good for them days when you only need a few hours wear.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Micro Eyeliner

The first liquid liner I’ve brought from Rimmel and I have to say it will be the last. I like the applicator but the liner isn’t very pigmented and looks patchy on the eyes. Would I recommend this? No.

L’Oréal Super Liner

For a easy straight line, this is great. The tip is thin so you can get a more precise lining but like the Rimmel liner, it isn’t very black. I like my eyeliner to be black not grey looking. For £6.99 it’s not the cheapest either.

Maybelline Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner

To be honest I don’t like dipping a brush in to gel to apply a liner, I just prefer a wand applicator. The colour is dark but it’s so hard to apply this straight. It’s just too awkward and I wouldn’t repurchase.

NYX Vinyl Liquid Liner

At £6.00 this NYX’s liner is one of the cheapest on this list but it’s such a great quality eyeliner. It glides on beautifully and is so black and glossy. The only little problem is the lid is too long so I find it slightly harder to be accurate. Other than that, it’s perfect.

Kat Von D Ink Liner

I thought Kat Von D eyeliner was meant to be a cult favourite? I can’t see why. The only difference between this one and the L’oreal one is that it’s slightly more pigmented. You can get a straight line with this but it won’t be very dark.

MAC Liquidlast Liner

I spoke about this one in My Everyday Make Up Products blog post. It’s been my go to eyeliner for a while now. The tip is thin so you can get a precise line and it is so long lasting.

Here are the swatches of each liquid eyeliner. As you can see, the Collection, NYX and MAC liners were the only ones that were properly black. The rest look smudged and grey.

When I was washing my arms, the MAC and NYX eyeliners were the two that I struggled to get off. I guess that’s a good thing as it means they are long lasting and won’t start to fade with a little water.

That’s all the swatches for you today. The couple I would recommend is the NYX Vinyl Liquid Liner and the MAC Liquidlast Liner. They both glide on smoothly, are dark in colour and very long lasting. Go for the NYX liner at £6.00 because the MAC one will set you back £16.50.

I hope these reviews and swatches helped you in deciding what liquid eyeliner to buy. Thanks for reading XOXO.

Thanks for this post! I use a lot of the NYX coloured eyeliners and love them, but I’ve yet to buy the black one. And the Mac one looks amazing, maybe I’ll have to treat myself some day aha! I’m currently using collection’s liquid liner and I do find you need a nice steady hand to get a fine line, but it works ok 🙂 xo

You’re welcome 🙂 I definitely want to try the coloured NYX eyeliners aswell. I’d recommend trying the black one you won’t regret it x
